Chao Mae Malika, also known as Phra Nang Malika, is a revered figure in the local legend of Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province. She is deeply respected by the local people.
According to legend, Phra Nang Malika was the daughter of King Fang Udomsin and Queen Samphiw of Muang Fang. She was known for her remarkable beauty but had a small imperfection — a cleft in her lower lip.
As she grew up, King Fang built a city named Wiang Malika for her to reside in. This city was said to be inhabited exclusively by women.
Today, the people of Mae Ai continue to worship and pay homage to Chao Mae Malika. Her statues and monuments can be found at Mae Ai Wittayakhom School and at the Task Force of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Mae Ai.
There is also a sacred shrine of Chao Mae Malika located on a mountain, where locals frequently visit to offer prayers.
Every year during Songkran (Thai New Year), the district organizes a traditional ceremony to worship and bathe the statue of Chao Mae Malika. People from various ethnic groups participate in the parade and cultural performances to express their deep respect and gratitude to her.
